Meet at 275 S Raymond Ave, Pasadena 91105
Did you know that Pasadena was once considered the gateway to the rest of Los Angeles by train? The rise and fall of the famed Pacific Electric Red Car line is a heckuva story (would you believe that it inspired Who Framed Roger Rabbit?). THIS SATURDAY, we'll be meeting up with Dot Wong of SoCal Cyclocross to retrace this history - and part of the Pasadena/South Pasadena/San Marino route - on our bikes! And in doing so, we'll look forward to a future in which biking, walking, and public transit play a greater role in our communities and lives.
This guided 11-mi bike ride will start at the Pasadena Central Park, across from the Del Mar Gold Line station. We'll roll out at 9 am and follow a couple of old train routes down to South Pas, through San Marino, and back up to Pasadena. We'll be making plenty of stops to rest and learn about the history of the Red Car line. The round-trip ride should take 2-3 hours, and will pass by two Gold Line stops (South Pas, Lake) in case anybody wants to go home early.
We'll have some tools and supplies on hand, but please bring your bike in good working condition. You'll also want to bring a helmet, some money for snacks or metro fare, drinking water, and appropriate clothing. (Tip: high of 99 F on Saturday. Wear sunscreen!)
RSVP at the Facebook event page.
